Meeting with Members of the Academic Network

Date: 18 November 2025

To promote the importance of child-centred statistics and strengthen data literacy, a meeting was held on 17 November at Sokhumi State University, organised by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The meeting brought together members of the Child Rights Academic Network (CRANG) and representatives of partner organisations. Its purpose was to encourage the use of child-centred data and to support the professional development of academic staff in universities, enabling them to locate, analyse, interpret and apply high-quality statistical data more effectively in research, teaching, and evidence-based policymaking. Participants also received a detailed overview of GEOSTAT’s Statistics Portal on Children and Youth, which provides users with quick and easy access to all key information on children and young people through a single platform.

During the event, Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of GEOSTAT, presented the main areas of focus of Georgia’s national statistical system, while Mr. Jesper Moller, UNICEF Representative in Georgia, emphasised the crucial role of data in assessing children’s wellbeing.

The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session and aimed to further strengthen collaboration with the academic sector.
