Mr. Gogita Todradze Attends UN-Organised International Meetings in Japan

Date: 5 December 2025

The Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), Mr. Gogita Todradze, participated in the 21st Session of the Governing Council of the UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP), as well as in a management seminar for heads of national statistical offices from Asia and the Pacific. The events took place from 1 to 4 December in Chiba and Tokyo, Japan.

These meetings were organised by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP), and the Statistics Division of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and were attended by senior officials from these institutions.

As part of the programme, participants also took part in a World Statistics Day forum, opened by Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, and the Executive Secretary of ESCAP.

The UNSIAP Governing Council session discussed the 2025 Activity Report, the draft Work Plan for 2026, and other current issues. Particular attention was given to the organisation of training activities in areas such as climate change, national accounts, social statistics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

The Head of GEOSTAT took part in panel discussions and presented Georgia’s experience and Geostat’s future plans to the participants.

The management seminar for leaders of national statistical institutes in Asia and the Pacific focused primarily on strengthening leadership and management skills, especially in relation to engagement with statistical data users. The event also explored the data needs of government bodies, the business sector, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders; the effective management of statistical products and infrastructure; and the practical experiences of various countries.

The seminar, which also addressed the improvement of data collection and dissemination processes, provided a platform for discussing ways to enhance and deepen cooperation between national statistical offices and users of official statistics.
