The National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), held a presentation of its interactive portal “Statistics for Children and Adolescents” for students of one of Tbilisi’s schools.
The event, organised for schoolchildren, was opened by Ms. Nino Enukidze, Rector of the Business and Technology University; Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of GEOSTAT; and Mr. Jesper Moller, UNICEF Representative in Georgia, who addressed the audience with welcoming remarks.
The presentation took place at the Children’s Rights Centre of the Business and Technology University and was attended by students and teachers of St George’s International School.
The interactive portal for children and adolescents was developed by GEOSTAT with the financial and technical support of UNICEF. Its aim is to produce and disseminate statistical data in formats that are easy for children to understand, while also ensuring their access to statistical information.
According to GEOSTAT’s Executive Director, Gogita Todradze, the portal enables children and adolescents to obtain useful information about the country’s socio-economic and demographic situation through modern visual tools. He noted that the portal will significantly contribute to strengthening young people’s knowledge of statistics, improving their ability to correctly interpret information and develop analytical thinking skills, increasing awareness of children’s rights, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
The portal designed for children and adolescents consists of two main sections:
The first section, “Statistics for Children”, is intended for children aged 8 to 12. The topics presented in this section are tailored to the target audience and include engaging questions across various categories such as demography, education, agriculture, and more. The portal also features interesting facts about Georgia’s regions. To enhance understanding, a wide range of visualisation tools is used, including infographics, animations, video graphics, and interactive charts.
Within this section, users can also explore interesting statistical facts, complete thematic quizzes, and receive a certificate.
The second section, “Statistics for Adolescents”, is designed for young people aged 13 to 19 and presents engaging information about the country and its population. Through this section, users have the opportunity to complete educational quizzes and discover entertaining statistical facts.
As part of the event, students of St George’s International School completed educational quizzes and assignments using the portal. At the end of the meeting, participants were presented with symbolic gifts.
