Executive Director of Geostat was elected as a Member of the Bureau of the UNESCAP Statistics Committee

Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of National Statistics Office of Georgia was elected as a member of the Bureau of the Statistics Committee for two years at the 6th Session of the Committee on the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific(UNESCAP) in Bangkok (Kingdom of Thailand). 
The Elections of the UNESCAP Bureau of the Statistics Committee was held on the first day of the session, with participation of the heads of statistics offices of up to 50 UNESCAP member states, aswell as the representatives from UN and other international organizations (UNSD, UNDP, UNICEF, UN WOMAN, FAO, and IOM). 
The Bureau is a consultative and coordinating body of the statistics committee that provides assistance to carry out its functions. The renewed bureau is composed of 5 members, together with Georgia, there are heads of Statistics offices of China, Malaysia, Myanmar and Samoa. 
With regard to the UNESCAP statistics committee, it is a high level intergovernmental format and the decision-making body on the issues of statistics in the Asia-Pacific region. The Sixth Session of the Committee was opened on 16 October 2018 and will continue till the end of the week. 
Within the framework of the event, Mr. Gogita Todradze took part in the high level panel discussion and talked about sustainable development and official statistics production issues under the 2030 agenda.
