Mr. Gogita Todradze participates in the UN ESCAP panel discussion

On May 9, Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, participated in a panel discussion organized by the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD).

 

The discussion was held online and its main topic was the importance and potential of statistical data to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the dissemination of indicators in a way that would improve their use in the decision-making and planning process.

 

The Executive Director of Geostat discussed the importance of the role of statistical agencies in the use of data, barriers to the use of data and measures needed to eliminate them. He also stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement for better data, and introduced the measures taken by Geostat for the development of statistical literacy.

 

As Mr. Gogita Todradze noted in his speech, the main goal and objective of official statistics should be to produce high quality, reliable and timely statistical data based on the user needs.

 

Together with the Executive Director of Geostat, the meeting was attended by Rachael Beaven, director of Statistics Division at UN Economic Commission for Asia and Pacific, Ms. Martina Barbero, representative of Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), Mr. Batdavaa Batmunkh, the Chairperson of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia and other leaders and representatives of international or non-governmental organizations.
