The National Statistics Office of Georgia Continues Conducting the Listing of Population and Households, within the Framework of the Preparatory Work of the General Population Census 2024.

As the part of the preparatory work the General Population Census 2024, the National Statistical Office of Georgia started visiting all the municipalities of the Kakheti region and three municipalities of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (Batumi, Kobuleti, Khelvachauri) and collecting relevant information, from April 25, 2023.  The first phase of work includes compilation of the lists of existing buildings and households living in the above-mentioned municipalities. 

 

The field work will last for 15 days and will be conducted by the staff trained by Geostat. Data collection is carried out with the modern technologies using tablets. 

 

During the Phase I, the information regarding the country’s households and the number of people actually dwelling in households will be collected. That is necessary for conducting the General Population Census in the country.

 

During 2023 the compilation of preliminary listing of households will continue in the other regions as well and cover the whole area of the country by the end of this year. 3,500 trained interviewers will be involved in the above -mentioned activities. 

 

It is planned to collect the data of the General Population Census in the period from 14 November- to 19 December 2024 where the detailed information about the number of population and social, economic and demographic conditions, as well as self-government and settlements will be obtained. 

 

This information is crucial in order to determine the demographic situation, priorities of socio-economic developments and informing the population in the country. In addition, the General Population Census is an important source for the measuring progress under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators.

 

In order to optimize the financial and human resources, the Agricultural Census will be carried out along with the Population Census in 2024. As a result of the census, together with the demographic and social characteristics, a wide variety of information will be collected on the agriculture of Georgia 

 

The Population Censuses in the countries are conducted once in 10 years. The previous Population Census in Georgia was took place in 2014.
