Geostat to Launch Innovative Remote Sensing Pilot Project with ADB Support

Date: 23 June 2025

Geostat launches the collection of pilot data, using advanced remote sensing methodologies on June 23. The project is implemented under the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) technical assistance program – “Developing New Statistical Resources and Enhancing Capacity in Emerging Data Sources and Technologies.”

The pilot data collection aims to assess land parcels and crop areas through the application of remote sensing technologies and to explore opportunities for enhancing the quality of agricultural statistics. The pilot work will be conducted in the Kakheti region, specifically within the Sagarejo municipality. Data collection will be conducted using satellite imagery and advanced remote sensing tools to monitor land surfaces in accordance with international best practices. The outcomes of the project will serve to support the further implementation of the remote sensing system and its integration into the official statistical production process.

After the data collection, a specialized training will be conducted to strengthen the skills for processing and analyzing data acquired through remote sensing.

Staff from Geostat specializing in agricultural statistics and geographic information systems (GIS) will participate in the project. The training will be conducted by experts invited by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project is scheduled to be completed on July 2, 2025.
