Date: 1 October 2025

On September 30, the 19th Meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics (IAEG-GS), established under the coordination of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), took place at the Biltmore Hotel in Tbilisi.

The meeting was organized by the UNSD and hosted by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). The working group brings together experts from various international organizations and countries in the field of gender statistics.

The meeting was opened by the representative of Statistics South Africa, (is also acts as the Chair of the working group), and Ms. Francesca Grum, Assistant Director and Chief of the Demographic and Social Statistics Branch, Statistics Division (UNSD).

Experts from the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Bank, and UN Women discussed the challenges and opportunities related to the production of various statistical indicators within the framework of the working group. The discussions focused on a wide range of issues, including women’s economic participation and migration, violence against women (including technology-facilitated violence), as well as statistics on women’s political participation, financial inclusion, and labor rights.

“It is a great honor for Georgia to host such a significant meeting, bringing together experts from international organizations and partner countries. Gender statistics represent an essential instrument for promoting equality and advancing sustainable development. I am confident that the discussions and outcomes of the Tbilisi meeting will support the development of evidence-based policies to ensure equal opportunities and the well-being of both women and men,” stated Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat.
