Launching of PARIS21’s Report on Gender Data Use in Policy Making in Tbilisi

Within the framework of the 10th Global Forum on Gender Statistics 2 October a presentation of country report was held in Tbilisi. At the event PARIS21, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) introduced a new study – “Data-Driven Policymaking: Policies, People and Practices Beyond the Use of Gender Statistics.”

 

The report is the first cross-country analysis developed from PARIS2 based on a three-year study conducted between 2023 and 2024 in Kenya, Rwanda, the Maldives, and the Dominican Republic, carried out in close collaboration with national statistical offices and gender-focused institutions. The study highlights the gender statistics as an essential for policymaking across sectors including education, climate change, information technology, and beyond.

 

Following the presentation, a panel discussion was held within the framework of the study. Speakers included Ms. Nino Rukhadze, Executive Director of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia; Paola Féliz, Director of the National Statistics Office of the Dominican Republic and Gayatri Ramnath, representative of Equality Insights.

 

“It is important that gender statistics are effectively used in policy planning and implementation, as this is the only way data to have a real impact on the socio-economic conditions of the population,” stated Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

 

The main goal of the meeting was to promote the active collaboration between producers and users of gender statistics in the policy-making process and also facilitate the exchange of international best practices in this direction.
