Geostat Hosts Expert Mission of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)

Date: 15 October 2025

The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) is hosting an expert mission of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) from 15 to 17 October 2025.

The purpose of the mission is to provide technical assistance to Geostat in the development of Physical Energy Flow Accounts (PEFA) and Air Emissions Accounts (AEA), as well as to share international experience in these areas.

During the visit, discussions will focus on the current state of implementation of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) in Georgia, achieved progress and next steps for development.

The program of the mission includes various inter-agency meetings and a series of technical sessions.  At the meetings, the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and environmental non-governmental organizations will participate along with Geostat staff.

UNECE experts will work on pilot PEFA tables, address technical challenges related to compiling energy and emissions accounts by NACE categories, and develop concrete recommendations for improving data quality and integrating international methodology.

The development of environmental statistics is one of Geostat’s key priorities and is included in the Action Plan of the National Strategy for the Development of Official Statistics of Georgia (2024–2027).
