Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat is participating in the meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), held on 15–16 October at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva.
The Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians serves as its governing body and acts as a key platform where the most important decisions are achieved in the field of official statistics. The main functions of the Bureau include reviewing and approving the Conference’s work programme, defining the strategic directions for the development of official statistics, coordinating international statistical cooperation, determining the mandates of expert and working groups, and developing new statistical standards and recommendations.
During the session, participants will discuss various issues in the field of official statistics. The agenda includes such subjects as the methodology for measuring migration, statistics related to ageing, the measurement of poverty and inequality, consumer price indices, national accounts, the use of alternative data sources, and the strategic directions of national statistical offices. In addition, discussions will cover issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the misuse of data and disinformation, and preparations for the 2026 CES plenary session.
Mr. Todradze was elected as a member of the Bureau in June this year for a two-year term. The newly elected Bureau is chaired by the Chief Statistician of Canada, with other members including the heads of the national statistical offices of Ireland, Estonia, Slovenia, Albania, Mexico, and Australia.
