The Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), Mr. Gogita Todradze, is taking part in the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the UN Digital Transformation Group for Europe and Central Asia. The forum, which is held in Geneva, serves as a key platform for discussing the 2030 Agenda and for sharing experiences among member states.
Within the framework of the forum, high-level representatives from UN member states are reviewing progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), assessing achievements to date, identifying ongoing challenges, and considering next steps. Particular attention is paid to the adoption of transformative, inclusive, and coordinated policies, which are crucial to the effective delivery of the SDGs.
As part of the event, Mr. Todradze participated in a panel discussion entitled “Digital Transformation for Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.” During the discussion, he spoke in detail about the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Mr. Todradze highlighted the National Statistics Office’s transition towards digital transformation, as set out in the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics in Georgia (2024–2027). He noted that the Office is actively developing a Statistical Population Register, which will integrate data from various government bodies. This initiative is expected to enable the country to conduct register-based census in the future, which will significantly reduce costs and improve data accuracy.
The Executive Director also underlined the successful delivery of the 2024 Population and Agricultural Census, which was conducted fully electronically and provided precise data at the municipal level. According to Mr. Todradze, the success of this transformation is determined by four main factors: a robust legislative framework, a clear national strategy, strong international partnerships, and sustained investment in human capital.
During the forum, Mr. Todradze is also holding bilateral meetings with partner organisations, aimed at further strengthening international cooperation in the field of official statistics.
