An introductory visit was held for Cadets of the National Defence Academy at Geostat

Date: 27 May 2026

On 27 May, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) hosted an introductory visit for fourth-year cadets of the Training Battalion of the David Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia. The meeting aimed to familiarise future officers with the national statistical system, the work of Geostat, and the importance of official statistics in the process of public administration and governance.

During the visit, the cadets were given the opportunity to learn the history of the establishment and development of Georgia’s national statistical system, contemporary processes for the production of official statistics, as well as relevant international standards and methodological approaches. The session also covered the services provided by Geostat to citizens and public institutions, mechanisms for data dissemination, and the practical application of statistical information.

In discussions with the cadets, Geostat’s Executive Director, Mr. Gogita Todradze, and Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Irakli Apkhaidze, placed particular emphasis on the role of official statistics in policy planning, effective governance, and evidence-based decision-making. According to Mr. Todradze, reliable and timely statistical information constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of a modern state, which ensures both the accurate assessment of economic and social developments and the implementation of effective measures in support of national security and the country’s strategic development objectives.

The visit was conducted in an interactive format, which allowed cadets to receive comprehensive information regarding the various areas of Geostat’s work and to engage directly with representatives of the institution on issues of interest.

The meeting once again demonstrated Geostat’s open and collaborative approach, which aims to share knowledge and professional experience with sectors actively involved in the country’s development. Initiatives of this kind contribute to raising civic awareness among young people, strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, and fostering a deeper understanding of the role and functions of the public sector.
