Mr. Gogita Todradze Chaired the Closing Plenary Session of the Conference of European Statisticians

Mr. Gogita Todradze, the Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), together with Mr. Irakli Apkhaidze, Deputy Executive Director participated in the 74th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), held on 24–26 June 2026 at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva.

 

In his role as Vice-Chair of the Conference of European Statisticians and member of the CES Bureau, Mr. Todradze led the Conference’s concluding plenary session. Discussions focused on the implementation of the UNECE statistical programme, progress achieved by the CES Bureau and expert groups, developments arising from the United Nations Statistical Commission, and strategic priorities for future statistical activities.

 

A significant part of the session was devoted to the consideration and endorsement of reports, international recommendations, methodological guidelines, and other key documents developed within the framework of the Conference. These documents define key directions for the development of official statistics and support the harmonization of statistical practices across UNECE member countries.

 

The Conference of European Statisticians is the highest governing body for official statistics in the UNECE region, bringing together 56 countries from Europe, North America, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. The Conference serves as an important platform for international cooperation, knowledge sharing, and the development of modern statistical standards.

 

Chairing the closing plenary session in his capacity as Vice-Chair of the Conference represents significant international recognition for Georgia and further demonstrates Geostat’s active role in shaping regional and global statistical initiatives.

 

Georgia’s participation in the governing bodies of the Conference of European Statisticians reflects the high international standing and professional reputation of the country’s statistical system. This participation enables Georgia to contribute directly to the development of international statistical standards and recommendations and best practices for further advancement of official statistics at both regional and global levels.
