Since 2026, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has been intensively using artificial intelligence (AI) across its operations. The adoption of innovative technologies marks a significant milestone in Geostat's digital transformation and aims to enhance the production of official statistics, improve the efficiency of internal operational processes, and provide users with modern, rapid, and accessible services.
AI capabilities have been integrated into both user-oriented digital services and the processes related to data processing, statistical analysis, methodological development, and information technology.
One of the most significant developments in this area is the launch of an AI-powered chatbot on Geostat's official website. The new service enables users to ask questions in plain language about economic, social, demographic and other official statistical indicators and receive instant responses. The system automatically processes users' queries, retrieves relevant official statistical information and, where appropriate, directs users to the corresponding statistical publications and databases.
Artificial intelligence is also being actively used to improve Geostat's internal operations. AI supports the review, update and further development of methodological documentation, the classification and processing of administrative data, statistical data analysis, database monitoring, and the optimisation of various operational processes. These applications contribute substantially to improving the efficiency and quality of statistical production.
Within the field of information technology, AI is used to support software development activities, code generation and optimisation, algorithm design, system testing, and the implementation of new digital solutions. The application of advanced AI tools helps automate technological processes, improve software quality, and accelerates the software development lifecycle.
Another important milestone in this direction is the launch of Geostat's new AI-powered NACE Classification Search Portal, introduced in July 2026. The portal enables users to describe an economic activity utilizing either text or voice input and quickly identify the corresponding NACE Rev.2 classification code. The service is available in both Georgian and English and is intended for businesses, public institutions, and other interested users. The portal is available at: https://nace.geostat.ge/ka.
In the future, Geostat will continue the gradual integration of artificial intelligence capabilities into various stages of the production and dissemination of official statistics, taking into account international best practices and modern technological standards.
Commenting on the initiative, Geostat's Executive Director, Mr. Gogita Todradze, said:
"Artificial intelligence has already become an important tool in the development of official statistics. Our objective is to further improve the efficiency of statistical processes through the application of modern technologies, improve access to official statistics, and provide users with fast, innovative, and high-quality services. Artificial intelligence supports our work not only in data processing and analysis, but also in strengthening methodological documentation and advancing information technologies. We will continue to develop these capabilities to ensure that Geostat remains a modern, innovative, and user-oriented national statistical office."
The implementation of artificial intelligence is fully aligned with Geostat’s development strategy and with international best practices in official statistics. The use of modern technologies will help improve data accessibility, support the automation of operational processes, enable more efficient use of resources, and contribute to the enhancement of the quality of official statistics.
